`Gommorah Believe it or Not Mash Up
Tuesday Aug 31, 2021
Tuesday Aug 31, 2021
One of the mysteries of the Grateful Dead is the song Believe it or Not, a stunning lov song sung by Jerry Garcia. The band debuted the song in June 23, 1988 at Alpine Valley and played it 6 times in regular rotation until October 21 at Reunion Theater in Dallas. It seemed as if the band had found another beautiful song for the post Drums>Space section of the show.
And then they dropped it (they did bring it back once on March 990 at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario.
Why did they stop playing it? one thought is that the song was too painful for Garcia to sing. It is a very personal song and perhaps it was too difficult to play. Perhaps he didnt think it was a very good song. This one is hard to believe because he put his heart and soul into it which suggests he liked it.
One other thought is that it sounded too much like the song Gommorah that Jerry played with JGB. Here are the two songs conjoined to one another. They are definitely musical siblings.
